BILL 70 - The Real Estate Service Act

Bill 70 has passed it's third reading and is set to become law. This will likely happen in March of 2016.  Here is a link to the Full Bill as listed on the Government of Manitoba website.

The Bill commonly known as The Real Estate Services Act will help the public better understand the Real Estate industry as well as placing more responsibility on Real Estate professionals to deliver what is promised. The finalized code will call real estate agents to higher standards of professionalism, transparency with clients, and will clearly lay out the responsibilities involved in servicing clients. The addition of a service agreement between agent and seller will also clearly outline the role of the agent and will set forth a written agreement covering commissions, fees, and what services the agent will provide.

As a Realtor in Manitoba I welcome the new and updated Act. Changes to our industry due to technology have been extensive over the past 10 years and it's nice to see the industry governance keeping pace.

I recently migrated from a RE/MAX office (after spending 6 years with the company) to Coldwell Banker Preferred real estate office. Aside from being North Americas oldest established Real Estate firm, one of the things that impressed me most about the company was it's commitment and dedication to a customer service guarantee. Most real estate firms will be happy to meet the minimum required standards set out by the new Act. At Coldwell Banker our promises are taken steps beyond the Act with additional written guarantees extended to the Home Seller.
